Why most reading tutoring gets such poor results
Most reading tutors think we are mad to guarantee results.
The reason is that 25% of our children reach the age of 11 still unable to pass a functional reading test, despite help from teachers and tutors. If you don’t believe me, just search online to check!
There are two reasons this is happening:
1) Most tutors do not recognise or deal with the 9 main causes of reading difficulty. They just don’t have access to the knowledge they need. We wrote the book on it.
2) The key to good progress is what happens each day. We focus on making sure your daily reading sessions go well.
Short, fun daily online sessions
Learning to read is hard work cognitively. When you book a 45 minute session with a tutor, at least half of that is wasted.
In our Easyread System we focus on the 10-15 minute session that you do together each day, when we are not there.
Our tutoring support is focused on joining you for those sessions to make sure you are getting the most impact each day and to fix any frustrations.
Efficient
For a reading intervention to be effective, the tutor needs to understand why a child is frustrated and then bring the solution that fits that difficulty.
For instance, here are some of the patterns we are looking for:
– Guessing/errors with short words
– Difficulty with long words
– Skipping words and lines
– Difficulty blending sounds into words
– Difficulty with fluency
All of those patterns indicate different possible issues that need different help.

We have suitable formatting and suitable content for the full range of ages. That is critical for achieving good engagement.
The system is designed so that the student can do their daily sessions unassisted.
This is important for building their psychology of ability and autonomy.
It also means that a single teaching assistant can. monitor a group of 5-10 students doing the daily reading practice in just 10 minutes.
