Free Decodable Books Special Offer
We are delighted that you are interested in our decodable books offer. It is available until the end of March 2023 or until our allocated stock is exhausted. Once the stock is gone, we will close this page.
Our aim is to recruit pilot schools in your area, who test the power of these new books and share that experience with the other schools in their districts.
The link to the order form is at the bottom of this page.
The Offer
We are happy to send you one set of 16 decodable Kindergarten books and 17 decodable 1st Grade books free of charge, for delivery to you at your school address.
These are yours to keep so that you can start to use them with your children. It’s not a free trial; these are a gift to the school.
Of course our hope is that you will want more copies, but there is no obligation at all. You can see our pricing here.
What You Will Love
You will find these books work really well because the children are not faced by endless tricky words that break all the rules they have been taught. You will know how negative that constant struggle can be for a child.
Instead, they can read these books successfully and feel their confidence growing. This is because each word is readable following the lessons you have covered to that point. They only use the letters and sounds you have taught.
We hope you agree that the most essential thing in these early months of literacy is that reading seems fun. Stress is the great enemy. So the books only use words the children can read and have great content too.
“The bright colours, the big text, the fact that it follows the science of reading and follows exactly what we were working on in our grades is what sold us completely. We sure love the books!” – Nicole Burns, Headland Elementary School.
The Book Design
The full Kindergarten 32-book set is split into 16 pairs of books that progress through the first 16 phonic steps of development.
The letters introduced in each of the 16 steps are:
1) S/A/T/P 2) I/N/M/D 3) O/G 4) C/K 5) E/H 6) U/R 7) B/F 8) L/W 9) J/V 10) X/Y 11) Z/Q 12) A_E 13) I_E 14) O_E 15) U_E 16) E_E.
Hopefully you are teaching a roughly similar sequence of letters. If that is the case, you will see their magic work.
The 1st Grade set gets into consonant blends, vowel teams, and silent letters as the complexity grows.
Tricky Words
To allow the books to make sense, we do need a few extra words that are not so simple to decode or don’t have a simple CVC structure.
These 27 words in Kindergarten are introduced slowly through the 16 steps. They are: a, the, and, is, I, go, to, we, like, he, you, she, see, was, no, with, for, has, are, have, said, me, this, they, what, my and of.
So it is less than two new tricky words per step, on average.
The high frequency tricky words in 1st Grade over the 17 steps multiply a bit: come, be, her, some, want, says, do does, here, all, little, one, out, were, our, there, live, your, their, many, any, why, love, could, give, once, call, large, small, four, over, because, know, people, where, again, who, done, through, great, laugh, move, work, mother, father, would, walk, change, another, school and buy.
Our Request to You
We have set aside a limited number of sets for this promotion.
So our only request is that you do use them and report back on how your children find them.
If that makes sense, here is the order form. I hope you will be excited when you take delivery of them!
