Free Decodable Books Special Offer
We are delighted that you are interested in our decodable books offer. It is available until the end of November 2022 or until our allocated stock is exhausted. Once the stock is gone, we will close this page.
Our aim is to recruit pilot schools, who test the power of these new books and share that experience with their districts.
The link to the order form is at the bottom of this page.
We are happy to send you one complete set of 32 fully decodable books free of charge, for delivery to you at your school address. These are yours to keep so that you can start to use them with your children. It’s not a free trial, these are a gift to the school.
Of course our hope is that you will want more copies, but there is no obligation at all.
The Book Design
The 32 book set is split into 16 pairs of books that progress through the first 16 phonic steps of development. As the children progress through your early phonics curriculum, they will be able to decode every word using basic phonics rules, with the exception of the 27 tricky words that we slowly introduce, step by step (see below).
The letter sequence used for the 16 steps is: 1) S/A/T/P 2) I/N/M/D 3) O/G 4) C/K 5) E/H 6) U/R 7) B/F 8) L/W 9) J/V 10) X/Y 11) Z/Q 12) A_E 13) I_E 14) O_E 15) U_E 16) E_E.
For these books to work their magic, you will need to be using a phonics program that follows a similar sequence of letters in the curriculum. There is no need to check it letter for letter. If it is similar to your curriculum it will be fine.
You will find these books work really well because the children are not faced by endless tricky words that break all the rules they have been taught. You will know how negative that constant struggle can be for a child.
Instead, they can read these books successfully and feel their confidence growing.
We hope you agree that the most essential thing in these early months of literacy is that reading seems fun. Stress is the great enemy. So the books have great content and only use words the children can read.
To allow the books to make sense, we do need a few extra words that are not so simple to decode or don’t have a CVC structure. These 27 words are introduced slowly through the 16 steps. They are: a, the, and, is, I, go, to, we, like, he, you, she, see, was, no, with, for, has, are, have, said, me, this, they, what, my and of.
So it is less than two new tricky words per step, on average.
Our Request to You
We have set aside a limited number of sets for this promotion. So our only request is that you order these books if they do roughly fit with the program you are using in your classrooms. It does not need to be a perfect fit, but it would be a waste if your program has a very different curriculum.
Here is the order form link. I hope you will be excited when you take delivery of them!
